Tentmaker Questions to Ask a Mission Agency

  • How does your agency handle home assignment (furloughs) and what happens if I can’t follow this policy because of my job?
  • How much will it cost to be a member of your agency?
  • How am I expected to pay for my costs of being a member?
  • What happens if I make more money from my work or business than the agency typically allows in the missionary support budget?
  • Do you have any programs in place that provide funding, mentoring, advice or other resources specifically for tentmakers?
  • Can you connect me to one (or more) of your members who are tentmakers and can tell me about their experience?
  • How do your teams work and how does my tentmaking fit in with the way you manage field ministry?
  • Can I change teams if I get reassigned or my job opportunity needs to change to another one?
  • How does the agency feel about a professional person not being able to join agency/team retreats due to job constraints?
  • As an employee of a company my first obligation is to my boss and workplace, is that a potential conflict with the missions team?
