Spying out the land – India

On the second half of 2018, Rebeca had the wonderful experience to have a dream come true: she went to explore the land God has set in her heart. The young biomedical professional spent a month in Northern India, studying and improving her English skills as part of her training before moving and working there in the near future. Rebeca told us about her time in India:

Discovery

“I saw a significantly different culture, I was immersed for a whole month; I was able to build relationships with the Indian people, and experience the Indian English and Hindi too. Also I met people who have never heard of Jesus.

My biggest shock was to realize how multi-linguistic the country is: there are 23 official languages, Hindi used as main official language, and English as the second one. India is also multicultural. However, the social inequality among social classes is staggering.
While there I had great opportunities to share the Gospel with local people who are very welcoming and neighborly. India is a country where we can still find numerous unreached people who have never heard of Jesus Christ.

Trying to get a hold of the country

Probably one of the most amazing experiences was during a whatsapp conversation, when a new local friend told me he had a headache, I asked if I could pray for him. He said ok, and, a few minutes later, he asked me if I had indeed prayed for him since he was no longer in pain. My friend was surprised for God had listened to my prayer. That same day I got to share my father’s testimony too; he used to be addicted to alcohol, and, when he met Jesus, his life was completely transformed.”

Conclusion

I met people who have never heard of Jesus.

Rebeca was not alone in her journey. She had the support from Tent Brazil, which warmly welcomed her after she concluded the GO Equipped course in Brasilia. The organization helped her to prepare her field exploring plan by means of the GO Ahead program. According to Rebeca, the course provided her with the basics of how to use one’s profession or studies to do missions. Her new knowledge turned her plans to another direction, now into a long-term commitment as a healthcare professional or an English student. She is focused on getting her plan done by next year.
